Opening hours

  • You can find details of the opening hours here.

  • The open stacks and journals stacks of the University Main Library are closed to the public due to renovation works from 25. august until the end of november, but items can be ordered during this time and will be made available by library staff for collection. Items can be ordered via the catalogue and can be collected from the lending desk (temporary location: ground floor, Room 008.2) after receipt of a collection notice.
  • The openly accessible area of the University Business and Economics Library is again accessible. You must fetch items yourself and then have them issued to you at the circulation desk.
  • Mailing fees have been reduced to CHF 5.- per item until 31 July 2020. Thereafter you will be charged the usual CHF 12.- per item. Due to the special circumstances, mailing fees from 16 March to 7 June 2020 were waived completely.

  • Items can be returned at the counter again or (where available) via the book return boxes.

Loan periods – reminder process active again since 15 June

  • From 15 June, the usual loan periods again apply for all the libraries of the Basel Library Network that offer online borrowing.
  • Between 16 March and 12 June, no reminders were sent and no reminder fees were charged. Reminder fees generated before 16 March remain unchanged.
  • The reminder levels for all loans that would have been due between 9 March and 15 June 2020, have been reset. This means that the reminder process will begin again with a free reminder, even for loans that were already in the reminder process, but that could not be returned by their due date.
  • Due to capacity reasons, the due dates of items borrowed from the larger libraries will be continuously increased by one day at a time at random:

    • - Bern: Von Roll Library and the University Library Storage Facility, Basisbibliothek Unitobler, Library of Law JBB, Mittelstrasse Library, PH Institut
  • The reminder process for all other libraries will start again as normal.
