An introduction to searching for information for history students is offered as part of the introductory seminars for undergraduates every spring and autumn semester.

  • Historical auxiliary sciences: genealogy, numismatics, heraldry

  • focus (in accordance with literature output) on the history of modern times, especially the 20th century

  • focus: Europe and the USA
  • other regions: particularly lexicons and general works
  • Switzerland: complete scientific literature where possible
  • Regio Basiliensis: where possible complete, including grey literature


  • in particular literature in Western European languages
  • generally original editions, translations in exceptional cases
